Android users will be able to use BHIM UPI to make payment in Google Play Store.

UPI or the United Payments Interface is one of the commonly used payments platform in India since its inception in 2016. It allows users to transfer small amount of money from the connected bank accounts to family, friends and vendors. Now android users can also use UPI to make purchases in the Google Play Store.

Currently Google Play store accept payments via credit card, debit card, Airtel and Vodafone carrier billing, Google Play Gift Cards and Google Play balance. But now users will get an additional option of payment via UPI in India as reported by an XDA developer. The option appears under the carrier billing option as ‘Add bank account with BHIM UPI ID’ in the Google Play Store app.

The feature is available on Google Play Store version 16.3.37 and is available to certain number of users as of now. Currently, Google Play Store Version 16.3.36 is latest version of the app available on Android phones and the company is offering no updates to the app yet. So it is possible that the tech giant may roll out the feature in a phased manner and Indian android users will see UPI as a payment choice in the days ahead.

The addition of BHIM UPI payment option in the play store will help users pay easily on Google Play Store. Currently 141 banks in India offer UPI functionality. This option may also become a key point in Play Store’s increased revenue from Indian market in the near future.
