Finally we have the most delayed and most leaked device of the year, Google Pixel 4a. As we expected it comes with snapdragon 730G, a 12 megapixel rear camera and a punch hole camera and 1080p amoled display. It finally has 128 GB variant which is also the only variant we are going to see this year. For now you can say nothing is impressive but here comes cherry on top, Google has promised 3 years of major software updates.
Comparison with Oneplus Nord
Google has not officially released the price for Indian markets but we expect it to be around ₹28,000. At this price point it is a direct competitor of Oneplus Nord. Oneplus Nord might have better processor and hardware but google makes it up with their optimized software. This 12 MP single camera setup can easily take better pictures than a number of the flagships. Having 60 Hz display might be deal breaker for few but those looking for perfect device, 4a is the one. Compared to oneplus Nord’s 6.4 inch display, Pixel 4a’s 5.8 inch panel might be handy for people. After reported software bugs and an ordinary camera it makes it easy to recommend 4a over Nord . Pixel 4a might be a better option for those who are looking for long term support for their phone. But if you want a performance centric device, Oneplus Nord is the better option for you. Steps in right direction
Looking at previous year models pixel 3/3 XL and 3a/3a XL, punch hole display looks much better implementation. From last generation’s pixel 3a lineup, Pixel 4a has a better processor and more screen in same footprint. Pixel 3a was launched at a price of $399 USD but Pixel 4a comes at $349 USD . This time Google has promised 3 major software updates, this is a great deal because earlier mid range phones used to get 1 major update and flagships used to get 2 major updates for an android phone . So pixel 4a is perfect in it’s own sense, which makes it better than many smartphones.
Cons
There are few disadvantages of having a single rear camera, no ultra-wide, no telephoto and no macro mode. The build is plastic, so it kind of feels cheap in hands. The last thing google poorly addressed is battery, it’s still 3140 mAh. These are cons but not deal breakers, at this price point pixel 4a has already made a name.
