Apple Watch Series 5

On September 11, 2019, Apple unveiled the latest iteration of Apple Watch i.e. Series 5. Apple Watch Series 5 replaces Apple Watch Series 4 and comes in two variants viz. GPS version and GPS + Cellular Version. GPS version is priced at ₹40,900 ($399) and GPS + Cellular version is priced at ₹49,900 ($499). It will be available in Indian stores from 27 September (20 September in US).

Apple Watch Series 5 comes in 4 finishes viz. Aluminium, Stainless Steel, Titanium and Ceramic. The biggest feature that comes with this year’s Apple Watch is the always-on display. So the display never sleeps i.e. watch face is always visible. Apple has customised watch faces in such a way that time and complications are always visible to the user, it just dims the display and change the colors of complications. A wrist raise or tap will bring the watch face back to full brightness.

The New LTPO Display:

The new apple watch display is loaded with Low Temperature PolySilicon and oxide (LTPO). The new LTPO allows the display to refresh dynamically to as high as 60 Hz and as low as 1 Hz. This makes the display extremely power efficient. This power efficient display lets apple watch keep its original 18 hour long battery life.

Apple has also optimised the watch faces to support 1 Hz refresh rate. When the display is dimmed in the simplest watch face, seconds’ hand is hidden and only minutes’ and hours’ hands move. Similarly apple has also optimised other watch faces as well.

Finally Apple has released the feature we all have been waiting for. Though it has been available in other brand smart watches for a long time, seeing this feature introduced by apple gives a sigh of relief. As we all know it “Apple does it the right way”.
